Recipe for an artificial urine that looks real, and gives good test results

In 1800 mL DI water add:

15 drops yellow food coloring

1 drop red food coloring

1 drop green food coloring

16 grams NaCl

about 1 drop 6M HCl (or amount to lower pH to just below 7)

Using about 500 mL of the above solution for each sample add the following --

Protein - use Bovine Serum Albumen; 5 g

Blood - use 1 drop defibrinated sheep's blood

Glucose - use 5 g glucose

Low pH - lower pH to desired level with 6 M HCl

Ketone - use a few mL of acetone (I find this rarely works unless the test strips are from a freshly opened, brand new bottle; we usually don't bother doing the ketone test with students, but I'd love to hear from anybody who has a successful method for getting a consistent positive for ketones. e-mail me, please!)
